MOP Updates & Chapel Appeal
Dear MOP Foundation Supporters
I trust this update finds you well.
Recently, on 17 September 2026, Fr Ho Lung, the founder of Missionaries of the Poor (MOP), celebrated his 87th birthday. It is a blessing that the founder of MOP continues to dedicate his life and energy to serving the least of our brothers and sisters.
It’s amazing to reflect on all that the MOP has accomplished through its missions in 10 countries, particularly as MOP celebrated its 45th anniversary on 19 July 2026.
Update from Labuan Bajo, Indonesia
On 15 August 2026, a powerful earthquake struck off the central coast of the island of Flores, Indonesia. The MOP Labuan Bajo mission is located to the western tip of the island.
Thanks be to God, the Brothers and residents are safe. However, the monastery suffered structural damage and is currently being assessed.
We received the following message from the Brothers at the Labuan Bajo mission:
"With great sadness and heartfelt gratitude to God for the safety of the brothers and the residents in our care. The earthquake has left so many people desperate, in dire need of survival, completely displaced and having lost many family members and homes among our brothers in the community who come from the same region.
We greatly appreciate your support—spiritual, material, and financial—that you have always offered and continue to offer for our community, the poor, the whole Christian community, and all of humanity in our vicinity."
Update from Saburai, Timor-Leste
Next month, Tony Harris and his team will be travelling to Saburai to install the new generator. Please keep them in your prayers as they undertake this important work.
The MOP Saburai mission has also received a container full of donated goods (photos below). This is such a wonderful blessing for the Missionaries, the people they serve, and the wider community. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this possible.
Chapel Building Funds Needed
The Chapel is nearing completion; however, work has been delayed while we await further funding.
The completion of the Chapel is important for:
providing a central place of worship;
supporting the spiritual life of the Missionaries; and
strengthening MOP's connection with the wider community and its visitors.
The Missionaries urgently need your support to raise $70,000 to complete the Chapel.
Father Noel and Brother Prem from MOP had intended to visit Brisbane in October to hold fundraising events. However, unforeseen travel and administrative delays have prevented them from travelling to Australia at this time.
If you are able to help, please see the details below on how to donate via EFT.
Every gift makes a real difference. Thank you for your generosity and continued support.
